Room 540 in Children’s Hospital has a great view for July 4th fireworks but we are leaving! Yea!
If medical neuro residents can’t handle pissed off moms and dads how are they going to handle really tough stuff like dying little girls with Retts or teenage boys with non verbal autism who are having seizures? Jeffrey should be a snap! Med schools need to teach having thick skin, open hearts and minds and disability etiquette. Jeffrey going home and Jeff and I only lost temper with 2 residents in 4 days. Not too bad….Children’s Hospital to the rescue again.
Our Mary’s Family reunion for today. One year old Johnny Mitchell and Jeffrey reunite at Children’s Hospital. Yesterday we ran into Shentelle! All roads go through Children’s Hospital for us…..
With President Obama’s disability advisor Kareem Dale….we are proud of Kareem and his hard work on our behalf
Sometimes you learn important news a little late…our dear mentor and friend Mary Donnelly, former patient advocate at Children’s, died unexpectedly this past spring. She inspired us, helped us and we used to joke that we named Mary’s Family after her….a wonderful friend RIP

Jeffrey tells his story on TV

Jennifer Ryan meets us

With Dr. Bear at telethon

The TV set
Have you ever noticed a telethon called Children’s Miracle Network - it’s not a religious show, but the annual fundraiser for Children’s Hospital in DC, and around the nation. We were highlighted 2 years in a row, and Jeffrey got to brag about how the hospital saved his life. They even filmed Jeffrey’s story and broadcast it. If you ever have an opportunity to give back to a hospital, school, or teacher do it now —- the hospital saved Jeffrey’s life and we were honored to say thank you in public, in front of hundreds of thousands of people.
Father Michael Mohn helps read at our first respite day in December 2002. Has anyone ever taken you under their wing, mentored you, saved you? Michael’s kindness and courage, and deep faith, helped us create Mary’s Family. Without Michael there would be no Mary’s Family….His passionate defense of human rights includes all people, including those with disabilities. We hope that you have someone like Michael in your lives….we all need an angel to lift us up.
