Volunteer

The greatest accommodation we can give someone with disabilities is the gift of friendship.  As a volunteer you will be offering this gift.  It takes 50 people to have a day at Mary's Family! What will volunteers do all day?

  • Morning volunteer sessions are 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.  Afternoon sessions are from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  You don't have to spend the entire day-- you can volunteer for just one session.  We change locations each month to make it easier for everyone in the region to participate.
  • You will spend 3 hours playing with one child: listening to music, playing basketball, arts and crafts projects, puzzles, etc.  You don't have to bring anything.  Everything you need will be supplied, even your lunch!
  • Even if you don't know how to care for a child with disabilities, you can help.  We have a paid pediatric nurse with us all day.  All you have to do is play and enjoy yourself.
  • No energy?  Help out by providing lunches for volunteers.  Sandwiches, drinks, or salads are needed for every volunteer.
  • Can you sing or play a musical instrument?  We have teenage volunteer friends from Notre Dame Academy, Wakefield School and Fauquier High Honor Society who have made Mary's Family their community service project.  We also have the adult Bible class from Bethel United Methodist sending us volunteers each month.  They bring their guitars, cellos, and violins to make music for us, and so can you.
  • And now you can come on the First Saturday of the month and/or the Second Saturday of the month. Do you live closer to Winchester? Volunteer for the First Saturday respite day.
  • BRING CANNED FOOD, TOILETRIES, NEW BLANKETS AND PILLOWS OR CLOTHING TO RESPITE. IT WILL GO TO LOCAL FOOD BANKS AND HOMELESS SHELTERS.
