Is your child going into the hospital? Do you have any doctor visits coming up? Have you ever tried to listen to the doctor when your child is in the room?
We will go with you to the doctor appointment, help out anyway you need. It is very hard to pay attention to things when your child is still in the room. Children who spend time at the hospital have a rough time. Working parents feel guilty if their child has to be in the hospital and they can't stay with them. Moms sit by the bedside day and night...and they need a break. Alot of hospitals, especially Children's Hospital in DC, have an active Child Care Center. But what if your child can't participate in arts and crafts? What if you need someone to quietly sit by him? Dentist visits can be difficult also. Many of our children need to be sedated for a simple teeth cleaning visit. Do you know what it takes to sedate a young child with cognitive disabilities? Try explaining to YOUR stomach why you can't have breakfast and multiply this 1000 times. Imagine the hassles you experience when you try to get your insurance to approve something. What if your life was full of medicines that needed to be approved every month. You can't get re-fills unless you go into the doctor, every month. You are going on vacation and need to fill your child's prescriptions a few days early - they won't do it.....the maze of hospitals, doctors, insurance, specialists, therapists..... The tyranny of the urgent - getting your child through the day - causes your adrenline to rush through your veins, making your kidneys work overtime, putting your hormones out of whack. And if this adrenline rush lasts too long? You, dear caretaker, can become very ill. Let us help you. Call the office, give us enough notice and we'll try to accompany you next time. P.S. If you go to Washington, DC we can visit the National Gallery of Art;or even our Senator or Congressperson! |
